Cat Shrine House Garners Praise & Prayers

Cat lovers who worship their feline friends – so, ALL cat lovers – might as well make it official with the new Mew Mew Box cat shrine house.

The Mew Mew Box looks like a miniature version of the many Shinto shrines found all over Japan. It's made from heavy-duty corrugated cardboard engineered by Hoei Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Ho-Way), a renowned manufacturer of playing cards founded 67 years ago. Ho-Way partnered with online cat-advocacy org Neco Republic to realize the original concept, which exceeded its crowd funding goal by a whopping 531%!

This charmingly detailed cat house features a number of faithful shrine-centric attributes including a pair of sliding shoji front doors, a braided cord with metal bell for prayers, faux-ceramic roof tiles that can support the weight of an adult cat, and a separate donation collection box for coins – or assorted disarticulated mouse and bird parts.

The Mew Mew Box measures 64cm wide by 48cm deep by 58cm tall (approx. 25” by 19” by 23”), and comes flat-packed with easy to follow assembly instructions. At least, we assume it's easy if you can read Japanese but hey – it's a cardboard cat house, you'll figure it out!

So, what will your proud and pampered feline Lord and/or Lady think of the Mew Mew Box? Odds are, they'll love it! And, you don't have to worry about them preferring the box it came in as it's sort of a glorified, inverted box anyway.

Last but not least, the descriptive copy at PR Times suggests owners can either install a comfy pillow inside the mini-shrine, or conceal a litter box within... which really doesn't sound very respectful. Then again, how many humans do you know who treat their bathroom like a shrine?
